Benchmarking Report 2025

Vitae, a programme run by the charity Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC), exists to champion careers in the world of academic research. The publication of a bi-annual survey – the Culture, Employment and Development of Academic Research Survey (CEDARS) is a key output for them, we were tasked with improving the accessibility and engagement for their diverse membership.

The majority of the audience will view the document online, or download and print it off, therefore it was agreed that a landscape A4 format would be the optimum format. Working within the brand guidelines, careful consideration was given to the layout of the grid and typography stylesheets to maximise engagement, legibility and to allow for export tagging. In addition the data was clearly signposted throughout the text and supported by a series of simplified, easy to understand, info-graphics. Interactive features and extensive alt text were added to the finished export to comply with accessibility requirements.
